Sir Alliott Verdon-Roe OBE, Hon. FRAeS, FIAS, was the first Englishman to design, build and fly a powered aircraft over a reasonable distance on 8th June 1908. He was also a successful inventor, and a consistent proponent of international monetary reform. Descendants of Alliott are working together to organise centenerary celebrations of his aviation achievements in 2007 and 2008. |
